Bouton Rc Combined School - Soufriere

The Bouton Roman Catholic Combined School is located in the most beautiful part of our island St. Lucia. The Bouton community is about six miles from the town of Soufriere. This remote community is situated on the western side of St. Lucia between the town of Soufriere and the village of Canaries.
The school was established on 17th June, 1961 through the efforts of the then Roman Catholic bishop of St. Lucia, Charles Gachet F.M.I. This is when a 24’ × 52’ wooden structure was erected on church owned land to provide the children in this community with an education. The school also serves as a place of worship for the residence of the Bouton community.
The original school structure was completely destroyed by Hurricane Allen in 1980. As a result, the school was rebuilt in 1982 by

the Hurricane Allen St. Lucia Rebuilding Fund Established by Mr. Leon Hess. This is when the school received an extension that comprised of four additional classrooms. As time passed, the school continued to improve on its physical structure. The two classrooms on the western end of the school were donated by Janet and Jack Helfenstien – Angel fund in 2008. Mrs. Bernadette Bobb was very instrumental in securing this project for the school. In addition, through the German Embassy, a new kitchen block was constructed in 2010. Mrs. Troubiskoy and MrsBobb coordinated this project. The Holy childhood Association through its external agencies represented in St. Lucia by Sister Paula rendered financial support to the project. Mr. Emmanuel Auguste, a resident of the community was contracted to construct these classrooms and the kitchen and Mr. and Mrs. Helfenstien assisted with electrical appliances and cooking utensils. The school received an additional extension which consists of an additional classroom and a state of the art computer lab. This project was funded by the European Union. This facility was officially opened and handed over on 13th February, 2013. Mr. Rohan Isaac secured this project for the school and the community.
The school’s population is made up of students coming from the communities of Bouton, Belvedere, and the majority coming from the town of Soufriere. The school presently has an enrollment of ninety-two students.
The school has eighteen staff members which consist of the Principal, nine teaching staff – two who are specialist teachers in Music, Physical Education and Information Technology, Office Assistant, Janitor, Cook, Caretakers and four Securities.
